Homer’s Iliad on the Lyre – Lyre Sheet Music

28.00

“There is no benefit when music stands secret and hidden.” — Lucian

The Iliad is the first of Homer’s two epics, narrating the story of the final year of the ten-year-long Trojan War. It begins with the bitter clash of the two legendary heroes: The indomitable Achilles, the greatest Greek warrior, and the famed Agamemnon, chief among the kings of Greece. Their rivalry will lead Achilles to withdraw from the war, leaving the Greek army without its greatest champion. In turn, his absence will allow Hector, the warrior prince of Troy, to rally his own army and mount a counterattack as he desperately struggles to defend his homeland from the greatest army the world has ever known.

This is a curated selection of stories & verses from the great epic so that you can narrate its key moments with your lyre, adding one of the most significant and compelling stories of the ancient world to your repertoire.

Song list: Invocation to the Muse ✦ Battlefield 1 & 2 ✦ Hector with his Son ✦ Delegation to Achilles ✦ The Burning of the ships ✦ Death of Patroclus ✦ Achilles’ Shield ✦ The Battle of the Gods ✦ Achilles vs Hector ✦ Priam Implores Achilles

“This Sheet Music Book is our latest addition to our effort to enrich the available educational resources for lyre and lyre-like musical instruments,” Nikolaos Koumartzis, the series’ director, explains.
