“There is no benefit when music stands secret and hidden.” — Lucian

Let’s unearth and learn together how to play a series of ancient melodies that somehow managed to survive and reach our modern world.

In this book, you will find surviving melodies from ancient Greece to ancient Syria, including a. simple tunes that probably were part of the everyday practice for the ancient lyre players, b. more demanding songs, along with c. musical interpretations of Homeric hymns.

In conclusion, this sheet music book is a guide to the oldest surviving melodies of the human species and, at the same time, a great place to practice further your playing and become an advanced lyre player.

As Lina Palera, the author of this sheet music book, states, “Our ultimate goal is to help you advance as a lyre player by providing you with rare material of long-forgotten beauty and great interest.”

Songs’ list: Oktasimos – Dekasimos ✦ Callimachus’ Hymn to Zeus ✦ Homeric Hymn to Demeter ✦ Hurrian Hymn to Goddess Nikkal ✦ Seikilos Epitaph ✦ 1st Delphic Hymn ✦ 2nd Delphic Hymn ✦ Hymn to Muse Calliope ✦ Hymn to Nemesis

“This Sheet Music Book is our latest addition to our effort to enrich the available educational resources for lyre and lyre-like musical instruments,” Nikolaos Koumartzis, the series’ director, explains.

The book is part of the Lyre Sheet Music series, in which some of the greatest lyre players around the world participate, including Thanasis Kleopas, Michael Levy, Theodore Koumartzis, Giorgio Sancristoforo, et cetera.
