_About the Greek God-Hero of Healing
Asclepius (Asklēpiós in Greek) is a hero and a god within ancient Greek mythology. A true son of Apollo and Coronis, he represents the healing aspect of all the medical arts. Asclepius had five daughters, known as Asclepiades: Hygieia, Iaso or íasis, Aceso, Aegle, and Panacea. Asclepius is intertwined with other deities like the Roman/Etruscan god Vediovis and the Egyptian Imhotep.
One of his epithets, “Paean,” is shared with Apollo and signifies “the Healer.” The rod of Asclepius, a snake-entwined staff, remains the symbol of medicine to this day. The practitioners who devoted themselves to Asclepius were known as the Therapeutae of Asclepius. This music album is dedicated and inspired by Asclepius, the most powerful ancient world symbol of medicine to this day.
