According to ancient Greek mythology, Pan was the god of the wild, companion of the nymphs, and he is depicted having hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, in the same manner as a faun or a satyr. Satyrs were followers of Dionysus (god of wine), and they are usually depicted in scenes of love and even orgies.
