Hadestown on Ancient Lyre – “Any Way the Wind Blows” Like You’ve Never Heard It
What happens when a modern Broadway melody meets the timeless voice of antiquity?
In this reimagining of “Any Way the Wind Blows” from Hadestown (the Tony Award-winning, Greek mythology-inspired musical by Anaïs Mitchell), vocalist Cordelia Hanford Foster and lyre maestro Lina Palera breathe ancient soul into Eurydice’s lament. With its delicate, earthy resonance, the voice of the ancient Greek lyre becomes one with that of Eurydice — raw, resilient, and carried on the wind.
This rendition marks a historic Hadestown performance as it is the first to feature the ancient Greek lyre—the legendary instrument once wielded by Orpheus to rescue his Eurydice from the depths of the underworld.
Performed by Lina Palera on her LUTHIEROS 13-string Lyre of Olympus, masterfully handcrafted in Greece by the Koumartzis family, and featuring the haunting vocals of Cordelia Hanford Foster, this collaboration brings the sound of the ancient bards to a beloved Broadway song.
